Our Church Services

Services and Events in our Churches over the next two weeks

On Sunday 8th February 2026 – the 2nd Sunday before Lent (it is also Racial Justice Sunday) - there will be services as follows:

At 9.30am at Brookfield Church a service of Holy Communion at which our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild, will preside.

At 11.00am at Stainton Church a service of Holy Communion at which our Pioneer Minister, Revd Vanessa Kirby, will preside.

At 4.00pm at Hilton Church a service of Evensong led by our Vicar, Revd Laura.

The lessons set in the Lectionary for the 2nd Sunday before Lent are:

  • Genesis 1:1 – 2:3
  • Psalm 136
  • Romans 8:18-25
  • Matthew 6:25-34

The Diocesan Reflection for the 2nd Sunday before Lent and Racial Justice Sunday is given by our Bishop of Whitby, the Rt Revd Barry Hill. Bishop Barry reflects on the Gospel passage set for this Sunday (Matthew 6:25-34) in which Jesus says to us: “Do not worry!” Bishop Barry unpacks this for us and your Editor would encourage you to watch and listen to this Reflection. On Tuesday 10th February 2026 at 9.30am at Stainton Church; there will be a half-hour Plurality Prayer Gathering.

On Wednesday 11th February 2026 at 10.00am at Brookfield Church there will be a service of Holy Communion.

On Sunday 15th February 2026 it is the Sunday Next before Lent and there will be services as follows:

At 9.30am at Hilton Church a service of Morning Praise led by Julia Ardley, Authorised Lay Minister (ALM).

At 9.30am at Brookfield Church an informal Breakfast Church service with simple refreshments, quizzes, puzzles and conversations, led by our Pioneer Minister, Revd Vanessa Kirby. [Editor’s note: There will NOT be Holy Communion at this service].

At 11.00am at Stainton Church a service of Holy Communion at which our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild, will preside and at which our ALM, Julia Ardley, will preach.

The lessons set in the Lectionary for the Sunday Next before Lent are:

  • Exodus 24:12-end
  • Psalm 2 or Psalm 99
  • 2 Peter 1:16-end
  • Matthew 17:1-9

The Diocesan Reflection for the Sunday Next before Lent will be given by the Venerable Liz Hassall, Archdeacon of York. Archdeacon Liz reflects on the Gospel passage set for that Sunday (Matthew 17:1‑9). You will be able to find the Reflection at this link from about the Thursday before that Sunday.

 

On Tuesday 17th February 2026 at 9.30am at Stainton Church there will be a half-hour Plurality Prayer Gathering.

On Wednesday 18th February 2026 it is Ash Wednesday and there will be services of Holy Communion at which our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild will preside, as follows:

at 10.00am at Brookfield Church;

at 12.00 noon at Hilton Church; and

at 7.00pm at Stainton Church.
