Services and Events in our Churches over the next two weeks
On Sunday 1st February 2026 it is Epiphany 4 but we will be celebrating The Presentation of Christ in the Temple, also known as Candlemas (transferred from 2nd February) and there will be services as follows:
At 9.30am at Hilton Church a service of Holy Communion
At 9.30am at Brookfield Church a service of Holy Communion.
At 11.00am at Stainton Church an informal Café Church service with simple refreshments, quizzes, puzzles and conversations. [Editor’s note: There will NOT be Holy Communion at this service].
The lessons set in the Lectionary for the Candlemas are:
- Malachi 3:1-5
- Psalm 24:[1-6], 7-end
- Hebrews 2:1-end
- Luke 2:22-40
The lessons set in the Lectionary for the Epiphany 4 are:
- 1 Kings 17:8-16
- Psalm 36:5-10
- 1 Corinthians 1:18-end
- John 2:1-11
Details of the Diocesan Reflection for Epiphany 4/Candlemas will be provided in due course. You will be able to find the Reflection at this link; exceptionally, for this coming Sunday, the Diocese will be re‑posting the Church of England’s service for Candlemas.
On Tuesday 3rd February 2026 at 9.30am at Stainton Church there will be a half-hour Plurality Prayer Gathering.
On Wednesday 4th February 2026 at 9.30am at Brookfield Church there will be a service of Holy Communion.

On Sunday 8th February 2026 – the 2nd Sunday before Lent (it is also Racial Justice Sunday) - there will be services as follows:
At 9.30am at Brookfield Church a service of Holy Communion.
At 11.00am at Stainton Church a service of Holy Communion.
At 4.00pm at Hilton Church a service of Evensong.
The lessons set in the Lectionary for the 2nd Sunday before Lent are:
- Genesis 1:1 – 2:3
- Psalm 136
- Romans 8:18-25
- Matthew 6:25-34
